Acupuncture Therapy in Anaheim, CA

Acupuncture is a form of treatment that involves inserting fine needles made of steel into specific “acupoints” on the body to stimulate healing. The purpose is to alleviate a medical condition or sensation, like pain. The method originated in the practice of traditional Chinese medicine. Research published in a scientific setting has demonstrated its efficacy in treating certain illnesses.

Acupuncturists who adhere to more old or traditional Chinese concepts emphasize regulating the flow of qi (pronounced “chee”), also known as energy, throughout the body. Some practitioners use Western medicine, which involves inserting needles into the body to stimulate its systems. Many acupuncturists practice a hybrid method that combines the two techniques.

Myofascial discomfort can also be treated with acupuncture. This widespread ailment affects the muscles and the connective tissue surrounding them. Overworked, stretched, or wounded muscles frequently develop taut trigger points and painful knots. A trigger point in one muscle could cause an unpleasant sensation in a different part of the body.

Trigger-point psychotherapy is a technique that acupuncturists employ to alleviate myofascial discomfort. They apply pressure to specific areas of the body to mitigate the agony.

How Our Care Plan Works

1. Get Out Of Fine

The initial phase of care puts most of the work on us. We will work to remove whatever is interfering with your body being able to do it’s job. You just have to show up! Everyone always asks how long it will take and our simple answer is “It depends.” Depends on your daily routine, your personal strength, your habits, your want to really get rid of what’s bothering you.

2. Getting It To Stick

This phase is crucial for sustaining the progress achieved and preventing the recurrance of symptoms. This phase also aims to preserve proper alignment, joint mobility and over all spinal health. Again, showing up is important, but now you get to do some work too. We will work together to put together exercises, stretches and possible lifestyle tweaks to keep you on track.

3. Live A Fantastic Life

The final phase of healing is wellness care. Wellness care focuses on proactive maintenance of your health and maximizing your body’s potential for optimal well-being. During wellness care, we develop personalized plans that incorporate regular visits, exercise, and lifestyle modifications. The goal is to enhance the body’s ability to adapt to daily stresses, maintain optimal function and keep your body well.

How Acupuncture Therapy Works In Anaheim, CA

Every practitioner performs the procedure by inserting fine metal needles through the skin at specific locations (acupoints) on the body. Based on expert reports and traditional TCM books and teachings, there are about two thousand acupoints in the human body. These points are linked by channels (meridians) via which vital life force (qi) travels. Imbalances in this energy flow cause disease, while health results from its smooth movement.

Acupuncturists who practice TCM believe that stimulating certain spots along these meridians can restructure energy flow and restore health. TCM practitioners use various methods, including acupuncture, herbs, a type of bodywork called tui na, advice on diet and lifestyle, tai chi, and other therapies.

Much research has been conducted over the years in the United States to understand this treatment more fully.

Acupoints are not arbitrary locations on the body. Scientists collected samples of tissue from such areas to study under a microscope. These points have an extensive number of nerve endings, fibers that transmit cold and hot feelings, and mast cells. Histamine, heparin, cytokines, and growth factors are all substances found in mast cells, which are a type of white blood cell that helps regulate the immune system.

Needles are placed in the fascia, a connecting tissue that covers every nerve and organ in the body. The autonomic nervous system, the involuntary element of the nervous system, richly innervates the fascia. This means that when an acupuncturist inserts a needle into the tissue and excites an acupoint, the fascia sends “SOS signals” toward the other parts of the body, causing a reaction. Whenever the body detects an imbalance, it sends blood and lymph to the area in question to address the SOS signal.

Dr.Nikelle really understands body structure and how to work on a body that is constantly bending and moving. I am a hairdresser and have been for close to 30 years. I stand all day and have a forward head posture due to the way I hold my equipment when working. Dr. nikelle really helps to put me back together after a long week behind the chair. Thanks Dr. Nikelle

Phenomenal experience. The ambiance is great and the staff is extremely friendly. I love that they offer so many services in one place — chiropractic, massage, cupping, red light therapy, and decompression. I’ve tried all of them and have had a great experience every time. It’s a great center for rehab, relaxation, and getting your body back into alignment. Special thank you to the owner, Dr. Shelton for taking care of active duty service members and doing my adjustments at no charge. I’m truly grateful and highly recommend Hands-On Wellness.

I love Hands on Wellness. The chiropractors are amazing and I always leave feeling rejuvenated and pain free. I typically see Dr. Sheldon (who I love), but saw Dr. Dan yesterday and I was seriously impressed. I felt like a whole new woman leaving the office yesterday and was completely relaxed after his adjustment and have zero pain. I didn’t realize how badly I needed to be adjusted. I also love that they offer so many other services. A naturopathic doctor, acupuncture, energy healing etc. It’s a full service wellness office with practitioners you can trust. I highly recommend them!

Really great vibes at this place. Really spacious and beautiful inside. There's a really beautiful painting in the bathroom that is hard to capture bc there's stark overhead lighting in the bathroom. Like the business, it just puts me at ease. It feels wasted hidden in the bathroom, wish it was out front!

Josh is a miracle worker. I was in town for work and the long flight from Chicago caused my back to lock up. When I got to my hotel my back started to spasm so I got a session with Josh that afternoon. He got me moving again; unlocked my stuff joints, improved my flexibility and I was moving in directions I haven’t for months… all in one session. Cant express how grateful I am that he got me healthy again. Anybody with back pain knows how debilitating it can be. I would recommend him to anybody.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an acupuncture treatment like?

An acupuncturist will ask questions about your health and symptoms during your initial visit. Your healthcare professional will then do a physical examination to determine which acupuncture points will be most effective. The acupuncturist will insert needles into specific places on the patient’s skin.

Needles are disposable, sanitary, and as thin as human hair. Acupuncturists can implant needles from a few millimeters to a few inches into the skin. Needles can remain in place for as long as 20 minutes.

What does the treatment feel like?

Every needle may cause a slight pinch. A blood draw is more painful than this. Needles used in the treatment are extremely thin and substantial, unlike the vacuous needles used in Western medicine.

What could make your treatment unsafe?

It is risky to receive acupuncture from someone who is improperly trained. Infections, organ punctures, and damage to the nervous system are all possible outcomes of receiving medical care from an inexperienced physician or one who uses non-sterile needles.

What do you expect after the treatment?

Due to the sedative effects of this therapy, we recommend that patients be driven home, particularly after their first treatment. If that’s not an option, at least take a short nap of five to ten minutes before getting behind the wheel. After every session, your therapist may advise you to rest for a day or two.

What is the frequency of seeing your acupuncturist?

The total number of sessions required will vary based on the nature of your ailment, its seriousness, and the body’s response. The typical appointment frequency for patients is once weekly. For others, the frequency of treatment is adjusted based on the impact duration. The acupuncturist can help you figure out the best frequency for your needs.
